A really really good book

2 Jan

I have been reading this book for about more than 6 months now. I find that with spiritual stuffs, knowing is not always understanding (hm.. as in any other stuffs I guess). And everytime I read a story from this book, it always gives me different understanding depends on what kind of emotions or mood that I’m in at the time. This book is written by a Buddhist monk named Ajahn Brahm , the original title is ‘Opening the door of your heart’, when it’s published in the US the title is ‘Who ordered this truckload of dunk?’  in Indonesian is ‘Cacing dan kotoran kesayangannya’ literally translates to ‘Worm and it’s beloved dunk’. The cover is pretty cute 🙂

The book consists of 108 heart-warming short stories. I cannot pick my favourite because every one of them is really good 🙂

One of the story that I really like is about the difference between dating, being engaged and marriage. When you’re dating, you’re only involved with your partner’s life. Even when you’re engaged, you’re still only involved with theirs. When you get married, then that’s the point where you’re become really really committed with your spouse. The difference between them is like the difference between eggs and bacon. The chicken is only involved in the making of the eggs, but the pig is fully fully committed in the making of bacon. (I hope the story makes sense, I’m not good at translating stuffs….) The first time I read that story is about a week before my wedding, and it made me realize how much of a commitment that I was gonna make. I hope I make a good enough bacon for my hubby 😀

This book also help me with my feeling-down mode that I was in 2 days ago. I took a super long walk that day, just enjoying the beauty of my surroundings, and I remember the lesson on one story on that book. The biggest cause of depression is merely just ‘not being grateful enough’. I have roof over my head, I have food on the table and I have clean warm clothes on my back, so why the heck am I feeling so down??!! I realized that I don’t have ANY reason whatsoever to feel sad! 🙂 MUAHAHAHA depression conquered!! 😀
